The Froyo update for HTC’s Desire handset has now been released in Europe. The update was scheduled for release this weekend. The Over The Air Update is available now if you manually search, or should notify you shortly if you have the phone set to automatically search. The download is 90MB to download so it’s advised to download the update over WiFi.
As well as updating the Android OS from 2.1, aka Eclair to Android 2.2, aka Froyo, the latest update adds the ability to shoot video in 720p, as well being able to sync music with iTunes, which for iPhone converters is a welcome addition. The HTC Caller ID has also been enhanced and the HTC App Share Widget is now included on the handset as well Wifi hotspot, which turns your phone into a wifi hotspot for your laptop, allowing you to tether. With Android 2.2 also brings the ability to download Adobe Flash 10.1, making more websites compatible with the handset. The update is initially being rolled out to unbranded European handsets, so those with network operator branded handsets will have to wait unfortunately. The update should also be released soon for the rest of the world but, there is no specific time line.
